The New Play Area Is Now Open!

Whimple Parish Council is pleased to let residents know that Phase 1 of the new play area in the Parish Field is now open and ready to use. We hope local children and families enjoy the new facilities.

What's in the new play area?

For children under 5: Located next to the Pump Track (at the back), this area includes:

· An activity tower with a slide and climbing features

· Swings

· A seesaw

· Two spring riders (a motorbike and a horse)

For children aged 5 and over: This area includes:

· Two large climbing and activity units with Fireman's poles and a spiral slide

· Hurdles

· Zigzag balance beams

· A rope walk

· Swinging grips

· An overhead ladder

· Swings

· A seesaw

There is also a new football goal on the other side of the Pump Track.

Funding the project

The project cost almost £55,000. The football goal was generously funded by WACY, while the rest of the funding came from Section 106 developer contributions and the Council Tax Precept.

Looking after the facilities

We ask everyone using the Parish Field and play area to treat the equipment with care. Please do not hang from the football goal or stand on the picnic tables.

We also remind dog owners to keep dogs away from the play areas and to clean up after them. A dog waste bin is available near the pedestrian entrance.

What's next?

Phase 2 of the play area will be installed in October 2026. This will include four additional pieces of equipment that are being donated and installed by East Devon District Council.

The play area improvements are part of the Parish Council's wider plans for maintaining and improving the Parish Field. Repairs to the Pump Track will be carried out soon, and the Council is also exploring improvements to the paths, access into the field and natural planting of the boundary.
